Refugee Committee

The Holy Family Refugee Committee was formed in 2019 to support a refugee family coming to Canada.

Update March 2026

The Holy Family Refugee Sponsorship Committee is diligently working to sponsor our chosen refugee family when they are finally approved to come to Canada.  By sponsoring this family, we are committed to supporting this family financially for one full year from date of arrival.

Our family of 4, Ashiq and Yasmeen (parents) and their adult children, Sarib and Sheeza are still in Malaysia.  The family is doing well but would like to be in Canada already. They are very appreciative of our parish’s efforts to support them when they arrive in Canada.  The family have completed their biometrics.  We have no further news from IRCC (Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada) or IROC (IRCC counterpart in Malaysia) as to when the family will have their interview, their medicals and/or when they will arrive so we ask for your prayers, that their resettlement may be expedited. 

Update March 2025

The Holy Family Refugee Sponsorship Committee continues its work to sponsor a family in need and to bring them to Canada.  We were introduced to the Pervaiz family (Ashiq, Yasmeen, Sarib and Sheeza) in 2023.  They have been refugees living in Malaysia for 15+ years.  Ashiq works on his tailoring and sewing with Yasmeen.  Sarib convocated in October 2024 with a Bachelor of Theology from Malaysia Theological Seminary.  Sheeza is in her third year of theological studies.  Our committee and the Pervaiz family have zoom meetings on a regular basis.  

Application paperwork, for sponsors and refugees, was submitted in the fall of 2024.  The Pervaiz family members have completed biometric testing (photos and fingerprints).   They are waiting for medical exams.   Once medicals are completed, we will be notified by IRCC (Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada) to discuss their transportation.  There is no time frame as to when the medicals done or transportation conversations will be.  Holy Family Refugee Sponsorship Committee paperwork has been approved by IRCC in Canada and sent to Malaysia.

Pervaiz Family Update - October 2024 

The Pervaiz family continues to do well but are anxious for the move to Canada and Regina.  Unfortunately, they are having to vacate their current accommodations and are having difficulty securing a new place with their pending departure to Canada.

Sarib will graduate from his college, with a religious studies degree, on October 19, 2024.  Sheeza is continuing with her religious studies program.  Their parents, Ashiq and Yasmeen, are doing well at this time.

All applications have been submitted by the Archdiocese of Regina to Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in May of 2024.  To date, Sheeza has completed biometric enrollment in Malaysia.  The remainder of the family is waiting to be asked next.  Following that, they will be required to undertake a medical exam prior to beginning to talk about travel arrangements.  

The time of their arrival is still very uncertain.  

Please keep the Pervaiz family in your prayers for their continued safety and a speedy arrival in Regina.
